Flight distance calculator
Distance and flight time between airports, with stops if you like. Shortest path over the Earth (great circle).
How it works
Which distance is this?
The great-circle distance: the shortest path between two airports over the surface of the Earth (mean radius 6,371 km). Real flights fly a little further because of airways, weather and air traffic control, usually a few percent.
How is the flight time estimated?
800 km/h plus 30 minutes for taxi, take-off and landing. Airline schedules differ with the aircraft and the winds; on long flights east and west can differ by an hour or more.
Why does the line curve?
On a globe it is straight. Flat maps stretch the world near the poles, so the shortest path looks bent towards them.
