The short answer

The best travel year-in-review captions do one of three things: give a striking number (“8 flights, 6 countries, 32,535 km”), name the moment that mattered (“January in Treviso, October in Bali”), or ask a question that gets replies (“Where should 2027 take me?”). Keep it under two lines so it isn’t cut off, put the number or the hook first, and add the places as hashtags or in the first comment. Below are 40 captions to copy and adapt.

You’ve made the video or the recap image. Now comes the part everyone gets stuck on: the caption. A good one does two jobs. It gives people a reason to stop and watch, and it gives them something to reply to. Here are 40 to copy, sorted by mood, then a formula for writing your own.

Replace the numbers and places with yours. If you made your recap on flew.world, your numbers are on your year page: flights, kilometres, countries, hours in the air and how far around the Earth you went.

Short and simple

  1. 2026, in one video ✈︎
  2. Every flight of my year.
  3. My 2026, flown again.
  4. The year in the air.
  5. 2026: a good one.
  6. Where the year took me.
  7. Twelve months, one globe.
  8. Recap of a year well travelled.

With numbers

Numbers stop the scroll, especially with something to compare them to.

  1. 8 flights. 6 countries. 32,535 km. One very good year.
  2. Flew 81% of the way around the Earth in 2026. Next year, the rest.
  3. 45 hours in the air this year. Worth every minute.
  4. 2026 by the numbers: 14 flights, 9 airports, 1 lost suitcase.
  5. 3 continents, 22 flights and more airport coffee than I’ll admit.
  6. Turns out I flew far enough to reach the Moon 8.5% of the way. Small steps.
  7. 6 new countries this year. Total count: 31.
  8. Most flights in one month: October, with six. Never again. (Definitely again.)

Reflective

  1. Some years you stay. This year I went.
  2. Every line on this globe is a story I’ll tell for years.
  3. January in Treviso, October in Bali. 2026, you were good to me.
  4. Thank you to every gate, every delay and every window seat.
  5. Not every trip was a holiday, but every one taught me something.
  6. The places changed. The people I travelled with made it.
  7. A year of leaving, landing and coming home.
  8. I didn’t realise how much of the world I saw until I put it on a map.

Funny

  1. My carbon footprint called. I let it go to voicemail.
  2. 2026: professional at airport security, amateur at packing.
  3. Spent more time in Istanbul airport than some people spend in Istanbul.
  4. Proof that I did, in fact, leave the house this year.
  5. The airline knows me better than my family does.
  6. Me: “quiet year.” The globe:
  7. Collected airports like other people collect fridge magnets.
  8. Somewhere in this video is a 5 a.m. flight I’ve chosen to forget.

Questions that get replies

  1. Where should 2027 take me? 👇
  2. Which stop would you pick?
  3. Guess my favourite trip of the year.
  4. Seen any of these places? Tell me what I missed.
  5. Same time next year, more countries?

For quiet years

Not every year is twenty flights, and a short recap can be the best kind.

  1. Only two trips this year, but they were the right two.
  2. One flight, one big adventure.
  3. Fewer flights, longer stays. 2026 was about going slow.

A formula for your own

The caption formula: a number or moment, plus a feeling or twist, plus a question

If none of these fit, use this:

[Number or moment] + [feeling or twist] + [question or next step]

  • “14 flights + somehow still not tired of airports + where next?”
  • “First time in Asia + still thinking about it + recommendations for 2027?”

Write it, then cut it in half. Captions are cut off after a line or two on most apps, so the first few words do all the work.

Text on the video itself

Many people watch with the sound off, so the words on screen matter as much as the caption.

  • The first frame: the year and one number, such as “2026 · 8 flights”. flew.world’s videos let you change the words at the top before you save.
  • Keep on-screen text short: five or six words at most, and away from the bottom of the frame, where Reels and TikTok put their buttons and captions.
  • Let the places speak: if each city is named in the video, you don’t need to list them again in the caption.

Make it accessible

  • Add alt text to images on Instagram, describing the post in a sentence: “A globe with my 2026 flights from Treviso to Bali.”
  • Turn on automatic captions where the app offers them, if you add a voice-over.
  • Write emoji at the end rather than between words; screen readers read each one out.

Hashtags and places

  • Put places in hashtags or the first comment, not in the main caption: #Bali #Istanbul #Treviso. People search for places.
  • Add one or two recap tags, such as #travelrecap, #yearinreview or #2026recap. More than five tends to look like spam.
  • Tag the location on the post if the app allows, using the place that mattered most.

Where to post what

  • Instagram Reels: the video with a short caption and a cover frame showing the year.
  • Instagram Stories: the passport card image, or the video, with a link sticker to your year page if your profile is public.
  • TikTok: the video with a hook in the first line of the caption, such as “Every flight of my 2026 in 43 seconds.”
  • WhatsApp and family chats: the video file, or the link to your year page.

Questions

How long should a travel recap caption be?

One or two short lines. Most apps cut captions off after that, so put the number or hook first.

Should I include the places in the caption?

Put one place in the caption if it’s the highlight, and the rest as hashtags or in the first comment, where people searching for them can find your post.

What hashtags work for a travel year in review?

The places you went, plus one or two recap tags such as #travelrecap, #yearinreview or #2026recap.

When should I post my travel year in review?

The first half of December, when year-end recaps trend, or between Christmas and New Year once your last trip is done.
